In the same process a meeting was held to day at Bhartia Pathsala Primary School premises in Chamurchi Where discussions were held about the function. Social worker Reja Karim, Who Chaired the meeting today, informed several political and apolitical organizations along with individuals have come forward to support the initiative. They spoke positively about celebrating Dooars Day leaving behind all differences and rivalries, he added. Representatives from various organization took part in the meeting, including Anjan Ray, Kalam Ansari, Parvin Agarwal, Jayant Sarkar, Jayprakash Agarwal, Gopal Agarwal and Ashok Shah among other. Dooars Day to be observed on 14 Jan; 20 nov, 2010; The Statesman Siliguri JALPAIGURI, NOV, 19: In keeping with the human fascination of the roots, those long estranged from the Dooars are looking forward to returning to the place of their origin. A congregation, involving those who have settled outside elsewhere in India or overseas, would take place on 14th January. The day would be celebrated every as the Dooars Day. A meeting was held at Banarhat yesterday to decide on the date and the details of the program. The meeting turned into a unique platform, which transcended the political barriers. All the political parties, some of which are known as sworn foes, joined hands to decide on how to celebrate the occasion in tune with the hospitality the Dooars are known for. It was decided that programmers would be held all over the Dooars in commemoration of the `home coming’. The people would light candlesticks in front of their houses and the students, waving with flags and festoons, would march along the rods. This aside, cultural programs, showcasing the humanitarian ethos of the region, would be held everywhere. According to be organizers the festival would herald peace in the long restless region. Keeping political animosity at bay, the local leaders of several political parties ranging from the congress, the Trinamool Congress, Kamtapur Peoples’ Party, Akhil Bhartiya Adivasi Bikash Parishad to the CPI-M and Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha sat together to give the final shape to the Dooars Day program.
